Day 4: In the Footsteps of Henri Guillaumet - Andes Expedition

Day 4: In the Footsteps of Henri Guillaumet - Andes Expedition

Thursday, March 19
Pampa del Aviador, Chile
-34.20, -69.85

The day begins at the ranch of Fundo Cruz de Piedra.

From here, the expedition moves on horseback. Long hours ahead, covering distance through alternating tracks and mountain trails. The pace slows, but the ground becomes more demanding.

The valley begins to open up, stretching wider with fewer signs of passage.
Only a few man-made elements remain, including sections of the international gas pipeline cutting across the landscape.

Hour after hour, the team moves forward and by the end of the day, they reach Pampa del Aviador. A remote, exposed area, directly tied to the memory of Guillaumet’s crossing.

Camp is set. Tents go up. Night falls in the mountains…
